Eagle Days 2010 - Jan. 23-24

Nesting bald eagles in the area will be highlighted at this year's annual Eagle Days on Jan. 23 and 24 in southeast Springfield.

A weekend of educational activities and spotting opportunities at both the Springfield Conservation Nature Center and Lake Springfield Park will allow spectators the opportunity to learn more and see why the species calls the shores of Lake Springfield home during the winter months.

  • Zoo staff and volunteers will present indoor programs at the Nature Center auditorium for field trip students on Friday, Jan. 22.
  • Public programs on Saturday, Jan. 23, & Sunday, Jan. 24: Begin hourly from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Phoenix (bald eagle) and Aquila (golden eagle) will be part of the programs.

  • Lake Springfield Boathouse & Marina are open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • MDC and Park Board staff will be on-hand with spotting scopes for the public to use for free from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23; and 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 24.
  • The Lake Springfield Park property also features a 3/4-mile greenway trail and a 1/4-mile walking trail along the north shore of the property, perfect for eagle gazing.
