Springfield, Mo. – Today, Friends of the Zoo launched the public phase of the Zoo & YOU campaign with the dedication of the TITUS EXPRESS , the new train at Dickerson Park Zoo purchased with private contributions.

In 2007, Friends of the Zoo embarked on the $1.1 million Zoo & YOU campaign to secure donations to fund several improvement projects at Dickerson Park Zoo. Until today, this campaign has been in its “silent phase.”

The centerpiece of the Zoo & YOU campaign was purchasing a miniature train. Previously, the zoo's train was leased from a concessionaire under a revenue-sharing agreement. Pledges and contributions by the C.W. Titus Foundation and other generous donors allowed Friends of the Zoo to proceed with purchasing a train while continuing fundraising efforts for the remaining projects.

Other zoo improvements included in the Zoo & YOU campaign are
•  a train tunnel feature,
•  an additional children's play area,
•  renovations to the river otter exhibit in Missouri Habitats, and
•  contributions to FOZ's Education Endowment Fund to support conservation education programming at Dickerson Park Zoo.

To contribute to the Zoo & YOU campaign, please call Don Tillman, FOZ development director, at 417-833-1570.

Friends of the Zoo is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supporting Dickerson Park Zoo's mission of education, recreation, conservation and research, by providing zoo guest amenities, cultivating donor relationships and hosting conservation education programming.
