September 2013 – June 2014
Dickerson Park Zoo, Ozark Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland are teaming up for a fun day of scouting activities.
Scouts will learn about animals and participate in age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences at stations throughout the zoo. Scouts will also see demonstrations and learn new skills in the Skill Village, participate in Keeper Chats and attend informational presentations during education programs in the Junior League Amphitheatre.
Picnic in the Park is presented by the Ozarks Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers. Local members are animal care professionals at Dickerson Park Zoo and Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park. The evening’s activities will include a hot dog plate dinner, animal paintings, a silent auction and animal encounters. A sample of silent auction items can be viewed at the Ozark Chapter AAZK’s Facebook page. Admission is $5 per person for everyone age 3 and older (children age 2 and younger are free). The admission fee includes the hot dog plate dinner. Proceeds from the event benefit Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the International Rhino Foundation.
Dickerson Park Zoo begins fall/winter operating hours on Oct. 1.
Admission and gift shop hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., daily, weather permitting. The zoo will close if there is ice or snow on the walkways.
